Social Work as a Major (Provincial-level specialty of the Guangdong Department of Education, Provincial-level Specialty in Innovative and Experimental Personnel Training)
【Program Objectives】
Students are provided with the opportunity to master the basic theories and knowledge in social work, gain firsthand knowledge in social research and investigation techniques and familiarize with the work in civil administration, and the administrative departments related to labor, social security, and health. They will also gain understanding of the work and the mechanisms in labor unions, youth organizations, women’s federation and other social organizations as well as other social welfare, social service and public welfare organizations. Students are also provided with the opportunity to become specialist in evaluate and operative work in such areas as social security, social policy research, social administration, community development and management, and social service, etc.

【Employment Prospects】
Guangdong Province attaches great importance to the construction of a talented team of social workers. Furthermore, nationwide, there is an initiative to promote “The Government purchases social and public services” pilot scheme. There has also been a rapid raise in the requirements in the society for high-quality professional social workers. The employment rate of the graduate students in this major is over 98%. Of all the graduated students, the success rate for passing the civil servant exam on average has been nearly 20%. From the graduate students or students who participated in exchange program, nearly 80% have found work in government sector, public institutions, social welfare institutions, street-level, community-level or non-governmental organizations, big and medium sized companies.
